SERESC's (Southeast Regional Education Service Center) directors asked us to create an addition to their existing facility to house an expansion of their programs. This Professional Development Center serves regional schools as well as business and governmental participants by offering facilities for large seminars. By blending our expertise in hospitality design with our knowledge of educational space needs, a final design was developed to offer gracious and functional support of the organization’s activities. Architectural finishes were selected to blend with existing elements while offering an updated palette. Special attention was paid to acoustical treatment of the larger halls resulting in custom designed sound abatement panels. These worked so well that they were applied to the original spaces too. The resulting effect was one of connectivity – that of old spaces to new and the connections strengthened between professionals serving our regions educational needs.
