LAFAYETTE PLAZA
BERARD MARTEL ARCHITECTURE, INC.
This reclaimed site features two buildings similarly designed to provide a unified retail environment. The most prominent,
L-shaped building fronting Rt.1 was built over the structural skeleton of a former bowling alley. The actual site is lower
than the main thoroughfare and was intentionally designed with higher walls to create more visual impact along the busy retail
strip. The site has a central parking area with the buildings sited to enclose this central space.
Design inspiration was drawn from simplifying European imagery such as the fortified building base, central tower forms, and
stone-like detailing & coloration. Elements of building one are repeated in the differently shaped and angled second building.
Both octagonal tower forms occur at the central angle portion of each building while flatter tower forms are located at the ends
of each building.
